HOUSTON AVENUE

Today, Alliance has a new home on Houston Avenue in the Heights. We welcome visitors, so come by to talk shop, have some fresh baked cookies or just say hello!

THE SHOP

It was a metal warehouse and we loved it! 2728 Columbia street was fondly referred to as “the shop!” We had plenty of room to grow and that we did! Lots of loud music and late nights of printing here too!

THE EARLY YEARS

The Alliance journey began humbly in 2006 within these townhome walls located in Rice Military. Michael and Nina Phillips purchased two plotters and two small-format machines (that were actually quite big) then squeezed them up the narrow staircase to second-floor spare bedrooms. Being the only 2 employees they had, they sold during the day and printed at night! It is with this dedication to our customers that our sweet company still stands on today and will always!

Michael Phillips

Co-Founder and Managing Partner

As the co-founder and hands-on managing partner, Michael is both the foundation and the heartbeat of Alliance. His strategic business planning, passion for industry knowledge, and love for building genuine connections have been the perfect recipe for his entrepreneurial journey and the company’s continued success. He is a graduate of Texas State University, where he also met his beautiful wife. Their three kids—James, Kate, and Jack—keep them both very busy and incredibly happy!

“Branching out” is an especially fitting phrase for Michael, as he’s a true tree enthusiast. His friends jokingly call him a “tree hugger,” and there may or may not be photographic evidence to back that up—lol! He grows trees, plants them around the neighborhood for friends and the community, and even donates them for charitable causes.

Nina Phillips

Co-Founder and Managing Partner

With a background in marketing and business from Texas State University, Nina eagerly jumped at the opportunity to co-create Alliance in 2006 alongside her husband. She played an integral role in laying the groundwork that gave clients confidence in the company—and helped them fall in love with Alliance’s now famously known fresh-baked cookies!

Today, she embraces a more creative role, leading social media and branding efforts. One of her greatest joys is bringing her three children—James, Kate, and Jack—to the office whenever possible. “I love that they will always have memories of going to work and seeing it all in action,” Nina says.

Fun fact: She loves self-help and motivational books!

Crystal Savage

Director of Operations

Crystal joined the Alliance crew in 2014 and immediately elevated the company’s production and operations processes. As Director of Operations, she oversees everything from vendor negotiations, forecasting, purchasing, and budgeting to operational strategies and the production floor. When asked about the best part of her job, she says, “Our clients!” and adds, “Our team—it’s not really a team, it feels much more like a family.” One of her proudest accomplishments is going back to school to earn her degree while raising two kids.

In her free time, Crystal cares for her two Australian Shepherds, Gypsy and Vienna, and enjoys exercising, brunching, and hitting Vegas to play Texas Hold ’em.

Kevin Anderson

Project Manager

Kevin joined the Alliance team in 2022. Working in commercial healthcare construction and building hospitals for over a decade provided Kevin with general contracting expertise and project management knowledge that is invaluable to Alliance.  Kevin is our eyes in the field and collaborates closely with our clients and production team to create inventive and efficient ways to bring project ideas to life.

Kevin has a passion for the outdoors, spending much of his free time fishing, hunting, and camping. He also enjoys woodworking, creating custom cutting boards, furniture, cornhole boards, and everything in between.

Johnathan Gil

Account Manager

Jonathan’s favorite part of his job is meeting new people and keeping clients happy. Raised in Katy, TX, he played football at Katy High School (Go Tigers!). He earned a B.B.A. from Texas State University in 2013 and was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon. In May of 2016, he joined the Alliance team.

Jonathan says, “I live and party in the Heights, like to travel, fish, and go to McIntyre’s!”

Ryan Conlon

Account Manager

Ryan joins Alliance as a recent graduate of the University of Houston (Go Coogs!). Growing up in Sugar Land, he has broad knowledge of the greater Houston market and uses this insight to better serve his clients.

In his free time, Ryan coaches Little League baseball, where his teams have earned national recognition and accolades. Also, if you’re looking for a great lunch spot—Ryan’s your guy!

Patrick Clark

Account Manager

Patrick joined Alliance in 2024 as a veteran of the athletic ticket sales industry in Houston. With a deep network of local connections and a passionate love for sports, he delivers elite customer support to his clients.

As a certified scuba diver, Patrick can often be found jet-setting to tropical destinations to explore fascinating dive sites!

Juan Ascencion

Large Format Team Lead – Installer

Since 2018, Juan has made Alliance proud as an exceptional large-format finishing technician/installer. Born in Mexico and raised in Houston, his biggest life influences are his parents, who moved here without knowing the language to provide a better life for their children.

In his free time, Juan can be found playing football with his son or BBQing with his family. “Working with my coworkers, and knowing that management always looks out for us and encourages a healthy lifestyle,” says Juan, “are my favorite parts of the job.”

Alice Solis

Customer Service Representative

Alice is a leader on our Customer Service team and a veteran of the print industry. With experience at various printing facilities, she brings a wealth of knowledge in managing complex tasks and delivering outstanding results.

In her free time, Alice enjoys spending time with friends and family. She is also always eager to learn new techniques and stay up to date with the latest trends in the printing industry.

Art Cardenas

Graphic Designer

Art is a seasoned graphic designer with a keen eye for design and product innovation. Since joining Alliance in 2021, he has been integral to both our business and our clients’ success.

In addition to his design work, Art is an experienced photographer who plays a key role in capturing images used across our marketing and operational efforts. In his free time, you’ll find him collecting vintage digital cameras and shooting photos for various creative projects he’s involved in.

Marta Menendez

Production Team Member

Marta joined Alliance at the end of 2020. She supports many areas of production, with a primary focus on small-format prepress and printing. Good design is a source of inspiration for her. She says, “Working as a team” is the best part of the job!

Originally from San Salvador, El Salvador, Marta spends her free time in Houston playing with her dogs, enjoying family time, and expanding her plant collection.

Susie Sandoval

Customer Service Representative

Susie joined the team in 2023 and instantly made an impact on our processing efficiency. Her prompt communication skills and positive attitude are essential to the success of our customer service team.

A Houston native, Susie enjoys spending time with her family and baking delicious cupcakes and donuts.

Delia Zarate

Production Team Member

Born and raised in the 5th Ward of Houston, Delia loves being a part of this great city. At Alliance, she assists with running print jobs, binding finishes, and much more!

Having joined the company in 2019, Delia says her favorite part of the job is, “how we all get along and love each other like family.” In her free time, she enjoys spending time at her mother’s house, who she refers to as her biggest influence, where many family members regularly gather.
